Roll top ridge gargoyle on porch

Written by Friday, 20 March 2020 20:08;

gargoyle on porch

This fantastic gargoyle roof finial is installed on a porch tiled with clay tiles and terracotta ridges. It is the focal point of the roof and creates a stunning feature on the porch roof. This particular ridge gargoyle was produced in a terracotta colour with an aged effect to match in nice with both the roof tiles and the ridge tiles. The gargoyle crest head sculpture features the gargoyle clinging to the tile and from ground level peeks down over the tile. The facial features and sculptural features are nicely defined to great a lovely decorative piece for the roof

The gargoyle is set on a 45 degree (90 degree) angled ridge tile and this particular ridge is called a roll top ridge tile. The pieces is quite versatile because it is small enough to fit nicely on a porch roof but also if a roof is roofed with roll top ridges it would look nice and uniform when installed. The gargoyle can be used to great effect also on roofs with reclaimed or weathered roof tiles and also new tiles as the gargoyle comes in a nice colour finish to suit most applications

The range of winged ridge dragons and gargoyle roof finials add stunning architectural detail to roofs. The winged dragons and gargoyles come on a range of different fittings and although mainly used for gable ends and hip ends our customers use them creatively as great features pieces. We will be expanding the range to include winged wyverns, phoenix, griffins, grotesques, lions and other winged mythical roof finials too in due

Please check out the gallery below and the range of ridge gargoyles that we produce:

Ridge dragons installed on period building

Written by Friday, 20 March 2020 20:51;

original style ridge dragonThese fantastic ridge dragons are installed on a character period property with a clay tiled roof. The property features several roof elevations with gable end roofs. The customer was looking for something decorative to decorate and add character to the Gable ends as previously there was architectural detail in the form of wooden roof finials but they had rotted through years of weathering

Original style ridge dragons finished in a weathered terracotta colour was the requirement to add detail and a decorative feature to the gable end so we produced two ridge dragons that had a more classic and original style design to work with the roof fittings and style. The roof tiles installed on the roof were a mixed clay brindle colour so there was quite a lot of colour variation on the roof ranging from darker terracotta clay roof tiles to lighter terracotta clay roof tiles and everything in between. The clay ridge tiles are more uniform in colour however but have a little weathering detail themselves and the dragons work really well alongside them

As you can see from the pictures there is some natural moss and lychen that is growing on the brickwork and encroaching up to the roof and that combined with the traditional style clay roof and other original features really does set the ridge dragons off nicely and they really look the part on the roof. The customer was absolutely delighted with their ridge dragons and later sent us a collection of photos when they was installed. The photos show the dragons installed on the gable ends from ground level and there are some close-ups of the dragons showing them installed with mortar fixing and where natural moss is taking a hold on the roof and naturally weathering and aging them

Dragon finial installed on a tiled conservatory roof in Guernsey

Written by Sunday, 05 April 2020 10:40;

dragon on a tile roof Guernsey

This great collection of photos was sent in by a customer showing a dragon finial sitting proudly on a tiled conservatory roof in Guernsey. The customer has an amazing property with a great seaview and were undertaking a renovation project to the property to add a conservatory extension with a tiled roof. They were interested in a feature to decorate the roof and opted for a dragon finial to add character. The conservatory roof is multi sided and has clay roof tiles, ridge tiles and bonnet tiles running up the hips with the Dragon as the fantastic centerpiece

As you can see from the photos the actual dragon is a half round dragon and can be used for hip end, multi sided and gable end roofs to great effect. The roofer fitted the Dragon in place on the ridge line using traditional mortar bedding and mortar join to give a neat finish. There is a run of half round ridge tiles that are installed adjacent to the ridge dragon and the roofer worked back from the Dragon to complete the install

Check out the photo gallery to see the tiled conservatory roof under construction, the roofer plying his trade and installing the dragon and ridge fittings and the finished dragon install with the fantastic view of the sea. The customer also purchased a gargoyle wall plaque which is going to be integrated into the internal design and painted to create a lovely gothic themed feature indoors

Ridge dragon installed on manor house roof

Written by Sunday, 05 April 2020 14:29;

ridge dragon installed on manor house roof

This traditional English farmhouse manor is set in a rural area with farmland and was undergoing extensive roofing and refurbishment work to restore character and return it to as close to its magnificent original condition as possible. The customer wanted to add some personal touches and particularly something decorative for the gable end roof elevations. They opted to install angled ridge dragons on the roof to decorate the gable ends. They add some great architectural detail to the roof and are a point of interest when you look at the manor house

The dragons are finished in terracotta with an aged finish and are installed as the end tile on the run of ridge tiles. The manor house features some original roof fittings such as the ridge tiles which are clay ridges and the roof tiles which are hand made clay tiles. The handmade clay tiles tend to have small imperfections and as such give the roof good character and the colour is a nice brindle finish. The ridge dragons in comparison also are traditional in design and enhances the manor house roof to create a really nice feature

The manor house features wooden beams and original features inside and out of the property and although we have of course described the ridge dragons as also being traditional they can be installed on older more traditional properties such as this one but looks equally as good on Victorian, Edwardian and more modern properties too as they are very versatile
